Alfredsson's late tallies lift Sens over Habs

Hockey Betting Lines

11/10/2007 - Ottawa, ON (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Daniel Alfredsson scored two goals in the third period to lead the Ottawa Senators past the Montreal Canadiens, 3-1, at Scotiabank Place.

Chris Neil also scored while Martin Gerber turned aside 28 shots for the Senators, who responded with a victory after dropping just their second game of the season Thursday night.

Cristobal Huet had 34 saves and Andrei Markov tallied the lone goal for Montreal, which was looking to win their third straight game.

Montreal struck first and grabbed a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal at 11:11 of the first. From the top of the point, Markov was left uncontested and he ripped a heavy slap shot that sailed past a screened Gerber into the top left corner of the net.

The Senators had golden opportunity to tie the game in the second stanza as Alfredsson was awarded a penalty shot after being hooked down on a breakaway. Huet was up to the task though and denied Ottawa's sniper to keep his team in front.

Alfredsson was able to make up for his missed opportunity on the penalty shot and finally solved Huet at 14:50 of the third. From the high slot, Alfredsson took a pass from Dany Heatley and unleashed a wrister that beat Huet high on his glove side.

Ottawa continued to apply pressure after Alfredsson's tally and less then two minutes later took the lead. Neil battled for a loose puck inside the right circle and after gaining control, threw the disc on net and the puck went into the top left corner.

The Habs pulled Huet with a little over a minute to play but Alfredsson sealed the win for Ottawa with an empty-netter with 25.6 seconds left.

Game Notes

Heatley ended with two assists...Alfredsson has one goal in five-career penalty shot chances...Ottawa's Mike Fisher played in his 400th career game in the NHL and had an assist...Saku Koivu and Michael Ryder picked up helpers for the Habs.

Stanley Cup betting

New York, NY – October 3, 2007 – The dress rehearsal is over! The NHL preseason has ended and now that fans have had a glimpse of what is to come it is time to hit the book! Stanley Cup odds are live at MySportsbook.com, the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino.

The Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings remain on top of the odds charts after an impressive start in the preseason. Betting lines opened for both teams at 6-1 in June. Since then the Sens have fallen to 7-1 and the Red Wings are now caught in a pack including the defending champion Carolina Hurricanes, the San Jose Sharks and the Anaheim Ducks, all at 10-1.

MySportsbook.com has also posted props on each team’s point total for the regular season. The Senators lead the charge at 108.5 followed by the Ducks at 106.5. Detroit will attempt a repeat for the prize as the Red Wings are deadlocked with the Predators at 104.5 a piece. The temporary loss of highly touted rookie Evgeni Malkin puts a lot of pressure on the stick of assistant captain Sidney Crosby - his lowly Pittsburgh Penguins are listed at 71.5.

Even if bettors are not brave enough to put their money on the underdog, an early bet on the favorites at sportsbook.com tends to produce bigger payouts than a mid-season wager. Placing a $1,000 bet last summer on the Detroit Red Wings or Ottawa Senators would have paid out to $8,000 and $10,000 respectively, opposed to a $2,500 or $3,000 payout at the beginning of the playoffs.
