03/03/2010 - Macclesfield, England (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Macclesfield Town manager Keith Alexander has passed away at the age of 53.

He died after returning to his home following his side's 1-0 League Two defeat at Notts County on Tuesday evening.

During his second stint as Lincoln City boss in 2003, Alexander suffered a ruptured cerebral aneurysm which led to a brain hemorrhage and a spell out of the game.

But he returned to the Sincil Bank outfit before moving on to manage Peterborough United and then Bury.

Alexander also made history when he became the first black manager of a professional league club when he took the reins at Lincoln for the first time in 1993.

During his playing days he featured heavily for Grimsby Town although much of his time was spent in the non-league circuit.

A statement on Macclesfield's official website read: "It is our sad duty to report that Keith Alexander passed away today after arriving home from Macclesfield Town's game at Notts County last night.

"Keith was a splendid man.

"Our thoughts and sympathies are with his family at this very difficult time. He will be sorely missed at the Moss Rose and by everyone involved in football."
